Shark attack in Amsterdam
Thursday, July 15th, 2010Midsummer in Vondelpark
Sunday, June 27th, 2010Friday was midsummer and on Saturday some Swed’s and I sat up a midsummer party in Vondelpark. The party had one of those midsummer poles with a lot of flower on it making it look like we where some creepy sect. Us dancing around it and singing loudly in a language most tourists and dutch people don’t understand probably didn’t make it any better….

Biking next to the Amstel river
Saturday, June 12th, 2010From Amsterdam there is not a long way to the nature. Just five minutes from where I live the nice parts of the river Amstel begins. Next to the river you can find playgrounds, farmhouses, horses, cows and sheep. I found a sheep that was so cute, I just had to pet him, he is on picture number one. While biking back again I saw a free exhibition with free wine.

No Cuts No Glory
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010Today I went to check out the “No Cuts No Glory” exhibition from Project ASA. It was really cool and most of the artist that made the art work where participating in the tour. We went past around 18 pieces of art and I think the exhibition was sponsored by Jameson, because there was whiskey for everyone! The exhibition is going on until the end of August, but today was the only day with guides and the artists them selfs. If you want to go and see the exhibition yourself you can find a map here. I also heard that the painting of “I AMSTERDAM” on Museumplein is probably going to happen on Sunday. You can see all the photos I took on my flicker page.

Foam foto safari Small things
Sunday, April 18th, 2010Today I went on a photo safari hosted by the photo museum Foam. I think they where sponsored by redbull 5 pics, but there was so much text in dutch that I just skipped the text and enjoyed the event.

At the beginning I got a map over ten great photo locations in Amsterdam. I followed the map and got inspired by it. One of the tasks of the day was to take a photoseries of five pictures. I went for the theme “thirsty” but I am thinking of going for “coke” instead when I deliver my five photo to foam. Here is some of my pictures untouched.

Thirsty for loooove

After following the map for a while I had to get to Marie Heinekenplein to find a hint to where the lectures of the day would be. When I got there there was a lot of other photographers there looking for a clue. Finaly we found a tiny sticker with a name and a phone number. I texted “small things” to the phone number and got Kerkestraat 58 back.

At Kerkerstraat 58 There where sevrall expiriensed photographers holding lectures. You could also talk to each of them one on one, but I went to too many lectures to get much talking done. The lecture I really wanted to go to was of corse also the one I missed and the place where you could talk to him afterwards was completely overcrowded. I did however get to talk to Elspeth Diederix who gave me some really god advise on how to not have as much stuff in my pictures as I usually do when I take photos in a city. She told me to focus more on one thing and thereby showing people what I want to show them. I think I was the only non dutch speaking at the place, but most of the lectures where okay with speaking in english. That was very much appreciated. Irene Cécilie’s lecture was very inspiering. She talked about how to inspire yourself and gave me 6 great tips that I will keep in mind: 1. Limit your space. deside that you are only going to take pictures in this street, this square, this room ect. 2. Put your brain in a different mode, like playfull, different or naughty. Pretend that you don’t know the world. 3. Look more playfully. which shapes look like each other? compare patterns. look for naughtiness. 4. think playfully. What would it be like if it was different? what does the shape remind me of? 5 Do playfull things. Put stuff in order. Make noise. Do useless things. The most useless stuff can often be the most beautifull stuff. 6 limit yourself. Limit the time, limit the colors, limit the theme, limit yourself to an opinion, limit yourself to an activity like walking.
All in all it was a great experience, so thank you foam for this great experience! I learned a lot.
The tourists are back
Saturday, April 17th, 2010Ladies and Gentlemen, the summer is just around the corner. Leave your gloves at home it is time to shake it in the sun. Leidseplein is getting busy again and today there was a man doing tricks there. To be exacte, there was one man there balancing a bike on his check

and at Albert Cyup Market it is getting really crowded again. But the fruit is fresh and tasty!

Weekly treasure hunt
Sunday, April 11th, 2010My weekly treasure hunt is slowly starting again. When I first moved to Amsterdam I wrote about the treasures I found in the streets of Amsterdam and now I am beginning again. For non Amsterdamers and new readers I will explain this weekly treasure hunt quickly: Every part of Amsterdam has its own days for throwing away garbage that does not fit the garbage cans in the street (some places don’t have cans and they get to throw stuff in the streets more often). They throw away everything from beds, couches, tv’s and sewing machines to whatever you can imagine.
I can say that it is not going as good as it did when I first moved here. I guess it is because it is not the season for moving right now so people don’t throw away as much stuff. Maybe there will be more stuff to find closer to the summer. But even though I didn’t find anything worthy of bringing home to the apartment for cleaning and using I did find some treasures:
Some cocking tools and a race track

A old and nice work out bike

A tiny tea table for the balcony that I don’t have

One week at De-construct
Thursday, April 8th, 2010I have now been at De-construct for one whole week and I am enjoying it! It’s a nice atmosphere, I get to do stuff and outside the window there is no longer just a highway to look at. I think I am going to have a good time here and I am pretty sure De-construct was the right step for me.
From our window:
